I had been away for a few days this week and upon my return home found that my "Sleeping Angel" scratchboard is featured on the cover of the Aus. Fine Art & Decorative Painting magazine Vol. 22 #6. Another very pleasant surprise to find my work on the cover of this magazine.
Early this month of October 2014, I entered the Heritage Nanango Art Fest 2014 with two of my scratchboards, one being in the drawing category and the other in animal/wildlife. My "Braided" won 1st place in Drawing and "Power on Parade" 2nd place in animal/wildlife. The following weekend "Waiting by the Window" received 1st place this time, not a HC and another favourite board of a European Grey Wolf received the People's Choice Award at the Kenilworth Trophy Art Competition. At last scratchboard art is being recognised!!!!.
"Braided" - 1st Place - Drawing - Nanango.
"Power on Parade" - 2nd Place Animal/Wildlife - Nanango.
"Waiting by the Window" - 1st Place - Human/Animal Category, Wishart Rotary Club.
"The Entomologist" - People's Choice - Kenilworth Trophy Art Competition.
I entered the Rotary Club of Tweed Heads South art competition last month and when I collected my entries after the show the Popular Choice Award had not been announced. To my complete surprise, two days later I received in the mail the certificate below for my "What About Me" scratchboard, which I was told was a clear winner.
This is Chloe, although the title for the board is "Bubbles". The photograph used for reference was taken by my friend Herman Fox in the USA.
I have been working on the 12" x 16" board below for the past couple of weeks and managed to complete it today. Not sure of a title as yet.....my favourite subject...dogs and my next board will be a............a dog!!!! The reference photograph used with permission.
I was too late to have a CD calendar printed for last year, so this year I am better organised and got in early.....these calendars are a great idea to have on your desk as they take up very little room. There is a different picture of one of my scratchboard pieces for each month. If interested, please contact me.
Something different to doing scratchboards of animals!!! I was recently given a book titled "Flower Garden Alphabet" by Sally Maxwell scratchboard artist, and I have "scratched" the following letters so far with three more to do. The letter 'E' I used a different colour than the colour featured in the book, these are all 5" x 7".
I decided to have a break from doing large scratchboards and for a change I recently completed this 5" x 7" board of Benny's eyes. Benny is a very well known rag doll cat and is featured regularly on Facebook.
As I am still in the mood to do something else apart from the usual of animals, I have decided to do a portrait of a small child which is a real challenge for me, having done only a few over the years.
Here is a scratchboard which is quite different to the usual of animals, this 8" x 10" piece is one I did last year of a rose and looking back at this, it has given me the incentive to try another flower at some stage and maybe add colour.
My second scratchboard for 2014......this board is 12" x 12". I decided to colour the ball which I took a longer time to do with all the layers of colour to get it the way I wanted, than the lion herself.
