Latest scratchboard.

I haven't posted in a while although I have been busy with working on a few scratchboards, this one is my latest.  The swan featured I gave to my Mum when I started work at the age of 15 and it now resides on my dining room table.

Aus. Artist's Drawing & Inspiration.

I discovered when I called into the local newsagent today that my scratchboard "A Mother's Love" was featured on the cover of the current issue of Aus. Artist's Drawing & Inspiration.  I didn't know anything about my work being on the cover and it was a huge surprise, a nice one I must say!  It also features 11 pages of my work with some being from my first scratchboard publication back in 2009.

And yet another scratchboard.

Somehow I don't think I will ever do very much painting in the future as I just cannot stop myself from creating another here is the latest and for the want of a another title, I have called this "Playtime".  Oh and I have already started on another board of a beautiful Labrador, dogs being my most favourite subject.

QWASI Invitation.

As a result of winning the People's Choice Award in February this year for my scratchboard  "Precious Cargo", part of my prize was having my work featured on the Queensland Wildlife Art Society's invitation for their show "Circle of Life" to be held in November.  A couple of days ago I received a copy of the proof for the invitation which has my Circle of Life entry on it of "Hey Dad" of which I am very proud.

This is a People's Choice Award only show so if any of you are in Brisbane during the week of 17th - 25th November, check out the amazing art that will be on display.

More scratchart.

I seem to never think of what I will paint next these days but what I will scratch next.  Here are the two most recent.  As for the cute little Cavelier, I don't have a title for her as yet.

Local art show.

It's been a great weekend for scratchboard art.  I entered two of my pieces into a local art show; it isn't a huge show but there would still have been approximately 100 entries altogether with Representational having the most entries.  Other categories included Abstract Art, Watercolour, Pen & Ink/Pencil, and Other Recognised Art Form.

"Ginger" received 1st prize making this the 5th year in a row that I have won the "Other Recognised Art Form" category.

"A Drover & His Dog" was my entry in "Representational" art and to my surprise received a "Commended" and also won the People's Choice Award.  This is the 2nd year that my scratchboard has won this award - unfortunately this isn't a great photograph due to reflections.

Ebony Eyes.

I don't do very much painting these days and do more and more scratchboards.  I couldn't resist doing a board of this beautiful creature and now that it is finished have already started on another.

I now have 2 completed scratchboard since returning from my 2 nights away a couple of weeks ago, the first being a squirrel, the reference photograph used with permission by Eddie Evans FlickR.  Eddie also allowed me to use his photograph for my piece of "Tender Loving Care".

Here is the squirrel.  I couldn't think of a title for this one and asked for suggestions and as soon as "Nutcracker" came up, I immediately knew that was the right one for this piece.

My QWASI People's Choice Award.

Part of my prize for winning the QWASI (Queensland Wildlife Art Soc.) People's Choice Award was 2 nights at the Mt. Cotton Guest House.  I spent the 2 nights there last week and had a very relaxing time, met some lovely people as well as enjoy the great food and surroundings.  I thought it about time that I posted some photographs that I took while there.

The breafast table.  The morning this photograph was taken it was 7C degrees.

This little statue was just to the right of the table.

Rainbow Lorikeets visited for their breakfast as well and were just outside the window from where we were sitting.

Another visitor - a sulphur crested cockatoo.

Just a section of the bush setting.

Here is a link for more information about the guest house.

Precious Cargo.

I received fabulous news yesterday that my scratchboard piece "Precious Cargo" won the "People's Choice Award" at the recent QWASI International Wildlife in Art 2012 exhibition.    I became a member of QWASI last year and this was the first time I have entered their show, so with having received a HC plus this Award, it has been quite an exciting time for me.

The Lookout.

And yet another scratchboard - this one is 11" x 14" and is of a cute Snow Leopard cub. I was contemplating colouring it but once finished I changed my mind as I like it as is, I really do have to add colour to more of my boards!!!

Uninvited Guest.

Finally finished!

Uninvited Guest

Remember this piece!!!  The Butcher bird flew into our lounge room and perched itself on my crystal bowl and I was lucky enough to have time to get my camera and take a photograph of it.  I started this piece last August and once the bird and crystal bowl was finished I became bored with working on the tattered piece underneath so yesterday I inked over the tatting and have begun work on a new centre piece.

Tender Loving Care.

I have finally finished this piece (reference photograph used with permission by Eddie Evans FlickR) and decided to stay with the title of "Tender Loving Care" as I think it matches up with my other piece "Precious Cargo".

Tender Loving Care ......Update.

This board is almost completed and I just have some work to do to the cub to finish it off.

Tender Loving Care.

I have had quite a hectic week this past week and haven't done very much scratching to this board but a little is better than none I guess.  I have also thought of another title, rather than "Tender Loving Care" I thought maybe Mother's Pride & Joy".  Anyway here is an update.

Also,  I now have 2 new note cards available - "Timba" which recently won a Highly Commended in the QWASI art show and " Precious Cargo", they can be seen at the link below:-

Tender Loving Care.

I am working on 2 scratchboards at the moment, one 11" x 14" of a snow leopard cub.....I started on this whilst waiting for permission from the photographer to use his photograph of a lion and cub which I received and couldn't wait to get started on it, so when I'm tired of working on the 12" x 16" of the lion I do a little work to the snow leopard.

Here's the snow leopard - any suggestions for a title?

I finished this 8" x 12" scratchboard yesterday.....the Boxer's name is Vito and I have done a board of him before, plus an oil painting.  I love dogs and have owned two Boxers, sadly they have gone to the Rainbow Bridge.  Anyway, here's the latest!  Photos used with permission by his owner who lives in Sweden.

My News.

I became an exhibiting member of QWASI (Queensland Wildlife Art Soc. ) in May 2011 and I entered a few of my scratchboards into their prestigious "International Wildlife in Art 2012" show which had its official opening last night.

To say there were some absolutely amazing art works would be an understatement and I was very honoured to receive a Highly Commended for my 12" x 12" board of Timba, a female lion.  There was an amazing amount of interest shown in my scratchboard pieces and I received a great number of compliments regarding my work, so it was a very rewarding night.

Unfortunately due to reflections this isn't the best photograph.

Painting Finished.

Here ya go Rita.....the painting is finished although it really doesn't look that much different.  I just need to varnish it now when the weather isn't so humid - we're expecting it to be 33C today!

Saturday, February 18, 2012

I haven't done any scratchart since finishing "A Drover and his Dog" and I recently had the urge to paint as it has been such a long time since I have bothered to do any decorative painting at all.  This painting is almost finished and is on a solid timber bread box which was a garage sale find......the original design is by Ladybug Creations and called "Grandma's Homemade Apple Pie" - as my sons called my Mum Nan, I will paint Nan's Homemade Apple Pie across the top.  I still need to work on the ladys' hands and it should then be done and ready for varnishing.

A Drover & His Dog.

I finished this scratchboard yesterday and I have now started on a decorative painting which is on a lovely wooden type bread box is you can call it that and will post a pic when finished.  In the meantime I will probably start on another scratchboard as well, 'cause I just can't leave "scratching" alone.

New pattern & scratchboard.

I have been MIA for a few weeks and keeping busy with writing up a new scratchart pattern, an article for one of the Aussie magazines and working on a new board.

My new pattern 'Sleeping Angel' involves using a fibreglass brush, a tool I couldn't do without and my new board which is still a WIP should be completed in a day or so.  Permission to use the original photograph was kindly given by Greg Earl an Aussie photographer on FlickR.

My new board - A Drover and his Dog.

Baby Orangutan

Although it doesn't look like it, I did a little more work to this piece last night i.e. deepened the colour and finished the fingers.  The white showing behind the ear is much softer than this in real life, I just can't seem to get a photograph showing the true colour.  Also the reference photograph was used with permission by Joe Martin, FlickR.

Baby Orangutan

I started on this scratchboard a week or so ago and due to the loss of a very dear and close friend to Cancer, I didn't feel much like doing artwork and this piece was about to be binned!!! I have since put many hours into it and think it is starting to look okay with just having the fingers on the hand to finish.
