Scratchboard Publication.

I received in the mail today a copy of the latest Aus. Decorative Painting & Fine Art magazine which features my rose scratchboard, although the rose has a different title to that given to it initially.  This is my 5th scratchboard publication and about my 20th altogether with the others being of paintings and I was surprised to see my name on the cover for a second time.  At least with these publications scratchboard is becoming more well known here in Australia.

Yesterday's Memories

Not a painting but yet another scratchboard!   I do want to commence a painting and the delay is I am waiting for a board to be cut for me so that I can make a start, so in the meantime what else but to start on another scratchboard.

So this is the beginning, my fourth still life on scratchboard.  The glass lamp was a buy at a garage sale some time ago, the ornament, bible and crocheted centre piece belonged to my Mum.....the miniature rose lying across the Bible and not that you can see it very well ......grown by me!!!

Yesterday's Memories

Last Friday I collected my "Morning Swim" and "Garden Beauty" from the framers and I am really pleased with them..although I spray varnish the boards I prefer to have them framed under glass for more protection, some I have under non-reflective glass but these two are under normal type glass therefore showing some reflection in the photograph.  There are a few scratchboard artists who never frame under glass!!!!  And I have a new idea for framing when I have the next board done!

Connie.

This morning I received news that the surprise wedding gift I sent to a young couple in the UK who are getting married later this year had arrived!

I had previously been given permission to use photographs of both Lola and Maggie (Nature Study) as reference for my scratchboard work, and on browsing around their owner's photostream on FlickR I discovered this gorgeous girl, Connie.

I felt the owners loved dogs as much as I do and although I do not know the couple, I wanted to do this portrait of Connie who sadly passed away last year as I know how much it means to have a portrait of a pet that has given so much happiness.

"Hiding Place" - Completed.

I have titled this "Hiding Place" for the moment,  although I'm not sure whether this is what it will be after receiving some great suggestions both here and on a couple of lists I am on; and as I wanted to show the completed piece I gave it my initial thought of the above title for now.

Quite a few more hours work has now been done to this board and many more to go!!

I need help to decide on a title - "Hiding Place" or maybe "Just Waiting!", if there are any other suggestions out there they would be appreciated.

New board - WIP

I have only worked a little on this board in the past week, although I have managed to complete the 8" x 10" board that I was also working on which is a surprise gift, and will probably be heading off to the United Kingdom some time this week, once it is received I will post a picture.  In the meanwhile here is where I'm at with the Cheetah so far.

New Board.

This is the start of an 11" x 14" board of a Cheetah which I think is going to be a real challenge for me and will which take me a while to complete, plus I have also commenced work on a smaller board,  it is going to be a gift so I won't show it until it has been received.  I have a couple more amazing photographs of a Cheetah, one of which I think I might do a painting of at some stage in the future....if not a painting, another scratchboard!

I haven't decided on a title as yet but have a few in mind i.e. "Waiting", "Waiting in the Shadows", "Hiding Place".

Something Different

Not a scratchboard but a teddy bear rocking chair!

This was bought for my grandson's 1st birthday last month by his maternal Grandmother, and my son happened to mention that "Mum" painted bears, well I used to which was a few years ago....I'm now past the teddy bear painting stage although I enjoyed painting them on presents to  give my neices and grandchildren at the time.  This chair has travelled about 4 hours by train to Brisbane so that I could paint it, and since then I have been waiting for the weather to be less humid so that it can be varnished before it has at least a 6 hour journey to "outback" Queensland.

I have started on another scratchboard and hopefully will post a picture in the next day or so.
