A Mother's Love.

I was tossing up whether to call this "Security" or "A Mother's Love" which you can see the latter won out.  I thought I had this finished but after being given some constructive advice I did a little more work and this is the result, hopefully it is now finished.

Another Scratchboard.

It has been great to be able to start on another board which helps take one's mind off the horrific devastation caused by the earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand.   We have seen nothing but sadness with loss of life, loss of homes and everything else that has gone on with the Queensland floods, not only here but also in Victoria, bushfires in Western Australia, then with our beautiful Nth. Queensland having to contend with Cyclone Yasi.  It has been never ending, and now this week with New Zealand's earthquake.  I have been to NZ on a couple of occasions and it is a beautiful country, I also have a photograph taken of myself sitting on a seat just across from the cathedral where so many lives were lost - our thoughts and prayers are with all of our Kiwi friends across the pond.

Since finishing Maggie "Nature Study" - I wanted to try and do something different and a little more challenging to what I have done in the past, so here is the piece I have started on and which I should have finished in a few more days.  Permission was given to use the reference photograph which was taken by my favourite photographer.

Nature Study......Maggie.

Maggie is now finished, that is, unless I see something that needs a little more work...I also decided to call this piece as you can see by the title...."Nature Study".

I won't be commencing work on the raccoon just yet and will be starting on something totally different shortly.

Maggie Update

I have been able to do some more work on the board of Maggie which is 12" x 12" in size and have even started on another!!!  I have added a hint of colour to the butterfly although it shows a little darker in real life than in this photograph.  I hope to have this one finished in the next few days and I also need to think of a title.

The size of the new board is 8" x 10".

Maggie

I have finally started on one of the scratchboards I had prepared to do earlier this week which is of one of my favourite subjects............. dogs!  I absolutely loved this photograph of Maggie and I received permission to use the photograph from her owner, who also owns Lola.   The butterfly which was not in the original photograph I have added to create some interest, and which I intend to colour.

My other news is that yesterday I gave my first ever scratchboard workshop !!!!!!  I was extremely nervous at the beginning of the morning but as time went on, I began to relax.  The  workshop was a result of my winning 'Champion of the Show' with my Snow Leopard (Animal Magnetism)  http://httpmyblogblogspotcom-judy.blogspot.com/2010/11/animal-magnetism.html  at Laidley last November.

The Laidley area was one of the many badly affected by the recent Queensland floods and on the drive to this town there were workmen working on the roads where there had been landslides and parts of the roads washed away.  To see the level of where the water had risen was absolutely incredible.

Now getting back to the workshop....I was told by the lady who had organised it all with me that she had never had one before where people had been so quiet, there was absolutely no talking at all, so I guess everyone was concentrating and I had some of the ladies come to me afterwards and say that they hoped I would go back at a later date as they had loved learning about scratchboard.

Remember Lola!

I do not have any new paintings or scratchboards to show at the moment but hopefully I will early next week.  I do have two scratchboards ready to start working on, so in the meantime, remember this cute little girl called Lola, well last week she travelled all the way from Australia to the United Kingdom and arrived there safe and sound.  Her owner kindly sent me a photograph of the real Lola and her artwork which I thought you would like to see, of course Lola is a grown up girl since the photograph I worked from was taken.

The real Lola!

Salisbury Iris.

Today we will all be watching out for Cyclone Yasi, it was upgraded to Category 5 this morning with winds up to 300km per hour. The weather bureau has warned that it is likely to be deadlier than any storm seen in Australian living memory. Thousands of people have been told to leave Cairns which includes tourists/backpackers, and people are being evacuated from the hospitals to Brisbane, extra flights have been arranged to fly those out who don't live in the area.

Mother Nature is certainly giving this country a hard time lately, especially Queensland with this being the second cyclone in the past few days.

In the meantime I have managed to complete my Iris painting - I have no idea what type of Iris this is and have therefore given it the title of the suburb of where it was growing at my Mum's.

Iris Painting Update

It has been way too hot here today to be painting....and now Queensland is on Cyclone Alert due to Cyclone Yasi which is huge and 500kms wide.  Yasi is due to cross the Nth. Queensland Coast in the early hours of Thursday morning and people are already being evacuated from the immediate danger areas.  This is the second cyclone in the last couple of days with Anthony having already crossed the Queensland coast and no real damage caused, but Yasi is a different story due to its size.

Well here are a couple of photos showing the iris painting WIP.

A fair amount of work still to go here.

Getting close to being finished, although lots of fine tuning to do!!  Hopefully the painting will be finished in the next day or so.
