Fourth Scratchboard Publication

Today I went to the local newsagent to see if the latest edition of the Aus. Fine Art & Decorative Painting magazine was available and received an absolutely huge surprise to see my name on the cover re scratchboard.  I was almost as excited as when I was told that my "Bless Me" piece had sold recently at the Brisbane Exhibition.  So more recognition for scratchboard here in Australia.

Here is the project featured - Ted E. Bear

I'm Down Here!

This piece took me a little longer than I thought it would but now I think it's finished - the reference photo is by Daisyree Bakker/FlickR.  I needed a title and thought of a few i.e. Peek-a-boo, Are you looking for me? I'm over here! but think I will settle on "I'm Down Here".

Have started another scratchboard.

I'm still not in "painting mode" so have started on another scratchboard which is again of my favourite subject.  I think I may as well just keep on scratching this year unless my mood changes and I feel that I just have to paint so here is the beginning of the board with a long way to go!

Painting and Scratchboard.

I decided that I must leave doing scratchboards for a while and get back into painting and commenced painting a rose in oils.  I just couldn't motivate myself to keep at it and have put it aside for now and have already prepared another scratchboard to start on, so will post a picture when done although I don't know when that could be and will depend on whether I get back to my painting.

Today the 16th August, I had to go back to the Brisbane Exhibition to collect the two scratchboards I had entered in the Art Show,  one being "Intense Concentration" and the other "Bless Me".  My friend and I went to the EKKA last Friday week the second day of the show to see how we went with our entries (her entry was in the beading section) which is when I discovered I had two 2nd places for decorative painting, pics of which I have already posted to my Blog.   Neither of my scratchboards received a place in the particular category they were entered in but "Bless Me" SOLD!!!  I had no idea of this until this morning when I went to collect them, I was so excited I couldn't get home quickly enough to pass on my news.  The original photograph was used with permission and taken by a fellow Queenslander who said the lion was about to sneeze, therefore the title "Bless Me".

Just another scratchboard.

I just had to do another scratchboard and another one different to the usual which I have called for the want of a better title "Just a Rose".

Making a start.

Brisbane Exhibition 2010

For the first time ever I entered a few items into the "Creative Art & Craft" section of the Brisbane Exhibition which is Brisbane's biggest show of the year and when "the country comes to the city".

Prior to delivering my pieces to the Ekka as it is called by us locals, I taped my name and category to the bottom of each piece which is required on most all other art work.  To my dismay at the time of delivery the Steward told me my name etc. had to be removed which unfortunately left behind the tape residue and I had nothing with me to remove this.......the Steward was quick to inform me that they would make note of this and that I should not lose any points over it, I must admit I certainly didn't feel too confident about that when leaving.

The Ekka's opening day was last Thursday 5th August and on Friday I discovered that two out of my three entries had gained 2nd place - I couldn't believe it!  One was a design by Ladybug Creations (Jan McCraw) called "Lace Fairy" and which I entered into a local show last year and it did not gain a place at all and the other was my own design of a fully opened rose.  It will be really nice to have two ribbons with "Royal Queensland Show" on them and I only wish would be that my parents were still here to see them.
